Life has been so crazy around the Glenn household lately. Between work and the kid’s end of year school work and activities, I feel like we all haven’t gotten the chance to spend quality family time together. Thankfully, we got the chance last weekend since it wasn’t busy for a change. I hadn’t thawed anything out to cook, so we decided to go out to eat. We let the kid pick the place and he, of course, chose Denny’s (one of his favorites). I was very OK with that since it’s one my favorites as well. I had been wanting to try some of the options from their delicious-sounding ‘Red, White and Bacon‘ menu – which is a celebration of delicious bacon flavors, as well as the June 24 release “Independence Day: Resurgence.”
If you know me, or have followed me on social media for any amount of time, you know I love food – especially breakfast food. And, “Breakfast for Dinner” is a regular staple in the Glenn house. Needless to say, this is right up my alley. An entire menu pretty much dedicated to bacon? Yes, please! Also, my three new favorite words are now Honey. Jalapeno. Bacon. Yep, you bet your sweet tuchus it’s as good as it sounds. So good in fact, that the kid tried to steal some off the hubs’ plate. He kept repeating, “I don’t know what they did this bacon, but it’s good!”
I’m so glad we were able to spend some time together, without the pressures of work and school. And, I’m super happy we ended up at Denny’s. It may sound hokey, but I’ve been a fan since I was the kid’s age and have never stopped being one. In fact, years ago there was one a couple of miles away from my high school and we used to skip and go there to eat (shhhh!). I also used to go all the time with my parents and sister. It was a great. We were able to have some family bonding time while eating yummy food. Plus, it gave my mom a night off from cooking. And, now it’s one of the kid’s favorite restaurants to go to, for family time and our mommy/son dates. Denny’s was such a big part of my childhood, and I’m glad its still around for the kid to enjoy.
In the car on the way home today, I asked him why he liked Denny’s so much, he gave me three reasons:
- Good food, the bacon was great.
- They’re close to the mall.
- They’re America’s #1 Diner.
Ha! I have now idea where he get’s this stuff. I swear he’s just a little grown man in a 9 year old’s body.
